NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
www.nami.org
This is a terrific resource for families and
individuals dealing with mental illness. It’s packed with information
about the many types of illness, gives the latest research, refers you
to support groups and classes near where you live, advocates for legislation
to fight the stigma of mental illness and much, much more. NAMI has helped
several of my clients who have family members needing assistance and
resources.
NAPO
www.napo.net
Official site of the National Association
of Professional Organizers. Enter your zip code and you’ll get a list
of organizers in your area. Several of my clients have had great success
using professional organizers—they’re real lifesavers!
SMART Recovery Self-Help Network

If Alcoholics Anonymous isn’t for you (or a loved one is resisting it),
check out SMART (Self-Management And Recovery Training). It’s a network
of self-help groups for individuals wanting to gain their independence
from addictive and compulsive behaviors. SMART Recovery is an abstinence
program based on cognitive-behavioral principles, especially those
of rational-emotive behavior therapy.
Voices of Women
www.voicesofwomen.org
Through its educational programs, Voices of Women (VOW) expands knowledge
of global issues, advocates for human rights, and supports the equal
participation of women and men in advancing human security. Since 2001,
VOW has assisted organizations such as Save the Children, Women for Women
International, the United Nations Association of San Diego, and Wheelchairs
for Israel/Palestine. VOW has enabled a woman peacemaker in Uganda to
continue her work, provided school supplies in Afghanistan, and supports
Daraja Academy for girls in Kenya.
